Metal skin conducts temperature quickly in both directions and readily condenses moisture on its interior surface. Closed-cell spray foam sprayed directly to the underside of the metal panels and purlins creates a continuous seal that stops condensation at the source, while adding meaningful R-value in a fraction of the thickness fibrous products would need.

For pole barns and similar structures used as workshops, the same approach controls both temperature swing and moisture, protecting equipment, tools, and vehicles stored inside from rust and temperature extremes — often without requiring a full interior liner.

A workshop generating its own heat from equipment year-round has different priorities than a storage warehouse holding a steady climate for inventory, and a mixed-use building with an office or retail build-out inside a larger metal shell has interior stud walls to insulate on top of the shell itself. We assess the actual use of the space before spec'ing anything.

For small warehouses, the target is usually a consistent temperature range for product protection rather than a residential comfort range, with particular attention to loading dock doors and high-traffic openings that are often the biggest source of loss.

Closed-cell spray foam is typically the default against exposed metal skin because of the air and vapor barrier it forms. Blown-in works well for enclosed interior cavities in a build-out where there's no metal skin to worry about, and batt handles simple interior partition walls in an office build-out inside the shell.
